    Sciatica

Sciatica — pain that travels from the lower back through the buttock and down one leg — is caused by irritation or compression of the sciatic nerve. It can range from a dull ache to a sharp, burning sensation that makes sitting, standing, or walking extremely uncomfortable. Virginia uses ASMI to gently decompress the lumbar spine, reduce the pressure on the affected nerve, and restore comfortable movement — without surgery or medication.

    What you might notice

    • Shooting or burning pain down one leg
    • Numbness or tingling in the leg, foot, or toes
    • Weakness in the affected leg
    • Pain that worsens when sitting or driving
    • Difficulty finding a comfortable position

    How Virginia can help

    • ASMI gently mobilises the lumbar spine to reduce nerve compression
    • Addresses the disc, joint, or muscle issue causing the nerve irritation
    • A graded plan restores comfortable movement without aggravating the nerve
    • Reduces the muscle spasm that often tightens around a painful nerve
    • Most people experience meaningful improvement within 3–6 sessions

    Frequently asked questions

Do I need a scan before coming to see Virginia?
Not necessarily. Virginia can assess the likely cause of your sciatica without imaging. However, if you have one — particularly an MRI — bring it along as it helps her plan more precisely. If she suspects something that needs medical investigation, she will tell you.
My sciatica has been going on for months. Is it too late for therapy?
No. Sciatica can respond well to spinal therapy even when it has been present for a long time. The approach is adjusted based on how long you've had it and the severity of your symptoms.
When should I go to A&E instead of a therapist?
If you have sudden loss of bladder or bowel control, numbness in the saddle area (inner thighs and groin), or rapidly worsening weakness in both legs, go to A&E immediately — these are signs of a medical emergency. Virginia will always flag any 'red flag' symptoms during her assessment.
